The Lowry Hotel's search for the North West's mum with 5* star culinary skills
As Manchester Food & Drink festival fast approaches Manchester's The Lowry Hotel, part of the prestigious Rocco Forte Collection, announces its regional search to find the Mums who dish up the best grub in the North West.
The best starter, main and dessert plus the name of each winning Mum will be added to The Lowry's River Restaurant new 'Better than your Mother's' menu that will include traditional British dishes and will be served throughout the Food & Drink Festival.
The River Restaurant's new Executive Chef Eyck Zimmer is introducing the new menu to continue its move away from the more formal dining experience and to introduce diners to his British classics, created using fresh ingredients and produce from the North West.
The traditional dishes, which will be available on both lunch and dinner menus from 7 - 17 October, will feature flavorsome comfort foods that your Mum has been serving up for years including Black Pudding and Ham and Peas Pudding followed by Jam Roly Poly, Rhubarb and Custard and Rice Pudding with jam.
Eyck comments: "The North of England is synonymous with home cooking and everybody knows nothing tastes as good as meal cooked by Mum. Everyone has a particular dish of Mum's that is their favourite, whether it is a Sunday roast or an early morning fry up and we are asking the North West to nominate their preferred meal and their Mum."
Anyone wanting to nominate their Mum needs to send their Mum's name, address and recipe to Eyck Zimmer at The Lowry Hotel, 50 Dearmans Place, Chapel Wharf, Salford, M3 5LH. A panel of judges headed up by Eyck will choose the best starter, main and dessert and then the winning Mums will have their meals and names featured on the menu.
Once the Food & Drink Festival draws to an end, the Mum whose dish has been ordered the most throughout the festival will win a luxury spa day in The Lowry Spa, whilst her nominee will win a complimentary meal for two in the River Restaurant, where they will be able to order their Mums winning dish! Deadline for entries is Friday 23 September.
