Be Wined and Dined at The Lowry Hotel

The Lowry Hotel is taking wine & food lovers on a tantalising trip of the Loire Valley with an exclusive evening at The River Restaurant on Monday 5 June 2006. Hosted by the Restaurant Manager Marc Whitley with food by Executive Chef Eyck Zimmer the evening will invite participants to enjoy a delicious tasting menu with accompanying wines and will begin with Canapés in the River Bar at 7.30pm.

Guest speaker Roger Barlow, Managing Director of Gerrard Seel Limited, one of the North West's leading Wine-Merchants, will guide you through each of the wines. The Loire Valley offers the greatest variety of warm weather drinking wines so are an ideal choice for this time of year right through to Autumn.

The five course meal will commence with an aperitif of Touraine Sauvignon from Chateau de la Presle, a crisp, dry Sauvignon Blanc that will prepare the palate for the delicious items to come, the first of which will be a pressed Rabbit and Fois Gras Terrine with Jerusalem Artichokes, accompanied by a Vouvray Demi-Sec from the small yet astounding producer Pierre Darragon. Pure Chenin Blanc with just a hint of sweetness to balance the rich flavours of the Foie Gras.

This will be followed by Egg Faberge and Lobster Foam with Black Truffle and complimented by a Muscadet 1er Cru du Chateau from Bernard Couillard at Chateau de la Ragotiere. The mineral background of the wine will combine effortlessly with the earthy notes of the truffle whilst the fresh and lively fruit will act as a foil to the Egg and Lobster combination.

The main course will consist of a Tournedos of Aberdeen Angus with Smoked Bacon and a Red Wine Jus, all washed down with a Red Sancerre from Daniel Brochard. This pure Pinot Noir from the limestone rich soils of Chavignol that give complex notes of liquorice and spice to this red-berry flavoured wine, should be the partner to Eycks' delicious creation.

No wine tasting experience would be complete without cheese so guests will get to enjoy a classic Crottin, produced in the Loire region, with spiced sour cherries - the flavour of which will be brought out beautifully by the Sancerre Silex Blanc from Domaine Brochard, a well crafted wine not to be missed.

To finish off there will be a Strawberry and Mango Chiboust with Strawberry Sorbet to be married with a most rare offering of Petit Manseng, again from Bernard Couillard.

Tickets for this exclusive evening are available now at just £85 each by calling 0161 827 4041 and include all food and wine throughout the night.

The evening is the first of a series of exclusive evenings to be held at The Lowry Hotel over the coming months. They will give guests exclusive access to the finest wines.
