The River Restaurant Launches Spring Menu

The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester is unveiling its new menu for Spring 2007. The innovative menu has been created by award winning Executive Chef Eyck Zimmer, who recently took over the crown of Knorr Chef of the Year from Culinary guru Gordon Ramsay.

Eyck has created a contemporary European menu that draws upon the finest seasonal and local ingredients and includes a Chef’s Daily Classics menu designed to showcase some of the region’s best produce.

Starters on the A la Carte menu include Oyster ravioli with leeks and smoked bacon foam, Chicory tarte tartin, with caramelised sweet breads and Egg cocotte with asparagus and wild mushroom cream to name a few.

The menu offers diners a wide choice of pasta and risotto dishes for their main including Macaroni, artichokes with broad beans and parmesan foam, Crab risotto with lemon and black pepper and Gnocchi with goats cheese and slow roasted beetroots.

Fish fans will be in seventh heaven when choosing from Grilled swordfish with tomato confit, artichoke and crispy capers, Seared sea bass with chorizo oil, sweet corn and basil mash, Roast cod with a mild curry crust, sautéed baby gem and coconut foam, Lemon sole with parsnip puree, razor clam and a parsley jus or Fricassee of lobster and scallops with herb gnocchi and shellfish cream.

Meat lovers will be equally as spoilt for choice with Chicken and leek pie, tarragon, morels, Pork cutlet with black pudding, sage beigne and a cider jus, Lamb poached in olive oil with white bean puree, Slow roasted squab pigeon with pearl barley and a spiced cherry jus, Cheshire beef fillet with garlic snails, and horseradish mash or a succulent 16oz T-bone, with crispy Spanish onions.

The delicious dessert menu features a variety of classics including Apple financier with clotted cream ice cream, Cider apple jelly, Lemon parfait with pine nut dacquoise and raspberries, Chocolate brownie with pistachio chantilly, Five spiced crème brulee with a mango compote, Banana mille feuille with passion fruit coulis, English custard tart with prunes and pear and an Assiette of River Restaurant desserts and a selection of four British cheeses with plum bread.

Eyck’s Daily Classics menu includes a set meal from Monday to Friday, which is Lancashire hot pot every Monday, Shepherd's pie with seasonal vegetables on a Tuesday, Bangers and mash with onion gravy on a Wednesday, Liver and bacon with mashed potatoes and a sage jus on a Thursday and Beer battered cod, chunky chips, pea puree and tartar sauce every Friday.

Eyck has also devised a Du Jour menu, which is changed every 2 weeks to incorporate the freshest and most seasonal produce and is available at a value price of £20 for 2 courses and £25 for 3 courses.
